My Biography
Hi! I'm Ruben, a Year 2 Electrical & Electronic Engineering student, and I'm running for Vice President of Community. With experience working both behind the scenes and on the ground in student organisations and events, I value listening, preparation, and clear communication. I aim to represent student voices, support clubs and societies, and strengthen collaboration across the community to help build a calm, supportive, and inclusive campus environment
My Manifesto
- actively listen to and represent student voices to ensure concerns, ideas, and feedback are clearly acknowledged and addressed.
- support student clubs and societies through effective coordination, guidance, and problem-solving to help initiatives run smoothly.
- strengthen communication between students, clubs, and stakeholders to improve collaboration and execution.
- promote a supportive and inclusive community culture that encourages participation and mutual respect.
What motivated me to nominate myself?
I decided to run for Vice President of Community after encouragement from a close friend and the realisation that leadership comes naturally to me. I saw this role as an opportunity to grow as a leader while giving back to the student community in a meaningful way. I enjoy working with people and have a strong interest in supporting clubs and student initiatives. Through my experience in organising events and working both behind the scenes and on the ground, I have developed the skills and commitment needed to take on this responsibility. I believe that by listening, learning, and working collaboratively, I can contribute positively to the campus community.
My top three priorities
1. Listening to and representing student voices:
My top priority is to listen. I believe the best way to build a strong community is to first understand the needs, concerns, and ideas of students and clubs. Rather than assuming solutions, I aim to listen actively and move forward from there, ensuring that student voices are acknowledged and represented in decision-making.
2. Supporting student clubs and societies:
Student clubs are at the heart of a vibrant campus community. I am committed to supporting clubs and societies in any way I can, whether that means assisting with planning, coordination, communication, or problem-solving. I want club leaders to feel supported, heard, and confident when organising initiatives and events.
3. Strengthening communication and planning:
Good communication can make or break any plan. I aim to improve communication between students, clubs, and relevant stakeholders to ensure expectations are clear and plans are realistic. Alongside this, I value proper planning and preparation, so that events and initiatives are not only exciting but also well-executed and sustainable.
What would I bring to the role?
I envision bringing a more supportive and connected community to HWUMSA and HWUM by strengthening communication, actively listening to student voices, and supporting student initiatives effectively. Through collaboration with clubs, representatives, and stakeholders, I aim to create a positive environment where students feel heard, supported, and empowered to engage meaningfully in campus life.
