My Biography

Hey there! My name is Leong Himn Jen, currently studying in Foundation in Business. I've always been curious on how things work behind the scenes. When an event happens, what challenges do the team in charge go through when doing all the planning and budgeting? Personally, I believe that whether its organizing an event, supporting club activities or any ambitious ideas, they can only become a reality when good financial planning is achieved, and that's the mindset I'll bring with me along the way.

My Manifesto

I may not be the loudest person in the room, but I believe consistency, reliability, and having clear thinking are what matter most when handling student funds. My manifesto is that students' money should and must be used to invest on their well-being. As Treasurer, I want to make sure that every penny is spent with purpose and not wasted due to poor planning. Transparency, integrity and fairness are a must when it comes to managing finances. Students deserve to know that their money is being handled responsibly and that financial decisions are made with the whole student body in mind—not just a selected few groups

What motivated me to nominate myself?

What motivated me to nominate myself is my ambition to help build HWUMSA into a financially stable and well-organised team that can really deliver. To me, treasurer isn't merely a position that writes financial statements. In fact, it is one of the most impactful position there is. While other roles focus on creating new ideas and direction, treasurer make sure those ideas can be realised. More than anything, I want students to feel confident that their funds are in safe hands. Being Treasurer is more than just the numbers, it’s also about trust, accountability, and responsibility and that, is why I’m motivated to take on this role.

My top three priorities

- Clear and Transparent Financial Management — It is important that students know fully about how their money are being used as this can boost their trust in HWUMSA. I will work towards keeping financial records clear, organised, and easy to understand, making finances more clear to every student. - Smarter Budgeting and Planning — Good financial decisions are crucial in order to allocate funds in the best possible way. This means no unnecessary expenses, no being overly conservative until unable to achieve anything and making sure initiatives are financially sustainable. - Fair Support for Student Activities — University life is more than just academics, and I believe funding should reflect that. I want to ensure fair allocation of funds across clubs, societies, and student initiatives, so that different interests and communities are supported and no one is left out.

What would I bring to the role?

I envision myself building a sense of trust between HWUMSA and the students. As a broke Uni student myself, I know what it's like to not trust your money with anyone other than yourself, which means I will not entertain meaningless expenditures and waste the students' money. As a treasurer, I will make sure that the best value is brought out of every penny on my hand.
