My Biography
Ciao, everyone! My name is Syabil, currently undergoing Master of Arts, Accounting and Business Finance Year 1 here at Heriot-Watt University Malaysia. I am running for Vice President of Sports because sports have always been an important part of my life. As a former competing sportsperson, I know what it feels like wanting to give up. I know the exhaustion, the pressure to keep going, the motivation it takes to show up again, and the tears that come with both loss and growth. Those experiences taught me resilience, empathy, and the importance of having a supportive environment in sports. Because of this, my purpose is to serve the student community by creating a sports culture that not only celebrates performance, but also supports well-being, inclusivity, and personal growth. I want every student to feel encouraged, supported, and motivated, whether they are competing at a high level or simply trying sports for the first time. I am committed to listening to students, supporting sports clubs, and working together to build a stronger, more connected campus through sports.
My Manifesto
Plan and deliver a wider range of sports and recreational initiatives that encourage active involvement and enhance students’ physical well-being. Foster stronger teamwork and camaraderie among students by creating more opportunities for shared sports and recreational experiences. Serve as a platform to represent student voices in sports-related matters, ensuring feedback, concerns, and suggestions are effectively communicated and acted upon. Ensure transparent and consistent communication between students, organisers, team representatives, and relevant departments regarding sports activities and opportunities.
What motivated me to nominate myself?
I am motivated to nominate myself as Vice President of Sports because my experience as a HWUMCUP Officer has given me firsthand exposure to organising large-scale sports events and understanding what students truly want from campus sports activities. Through this role, I learned how sports can unite students, build teamwork, and create unforgettable campus memories. As someone who is genuinely active and passionate about sports, I strongly believe that sports should not only be about competition, but also about enjoyment, inclusivity, and community. I want sports to be a platform where students can balance their academic commitments by relieving stress, staying physically active, and connecting with people beyond the classroom. My goal is to create a vibrant sports culture where every student, regardless of skill level feels welcomed, engaged, and able to enjoy the true value of sports on campus
My top three priorities
1. Accessible Sports for All – I want to ensure that every student, regardless of skill level or experience, has opportunities to participate in sports. This includes beginner-friendly activities, open events, and inclusive programs that welcome everyone. 2. Balanced Campus Life – I aim to promote sports as a way for students to relieve stress, stay active, and maintain a healthy balance between academics and personal wellbeing. Sports should be a space where students can recharge, connect with peers, and build resilience. 3. Engaging and Competitive Events – I want to organise events and tournaments that not only encourage participation but also spark excitement and healthy competition. By creating memorable and well-structured activities, we can strengthen campus spirit and bring students together through shared experiences.
What would I bring to the role?
1. A Voice for Students – I will ensure every student’s idea, feedback, and concerns about sports are heard and reflected in our programs, so they truly meet the needs of the campus community. 2. An Engaged and Supportive Sports Community – I aim to create a campus environment where students feel encouraged to participate, support one another, and build friendships through sports, making campus life more connected and active.
